Tips On Buying A New Horse

By dustin michael at 11/14/08 01:44

Are you looking to purchase a new horse, but now sure what one would be the best decision? I might have a few tips to help you out. Did you know there are more than 100 breeds of horses that exist today? That doesn't narrow your options very much.

If you are a beginner, it's not about the type of breed the horse is it is more about the training the horse has. Try to stay away from Arabians and thoroughbreds. Older horses between the ages of 10-17 are much better for someone who is just starting out. I have heard a Gelding is better than a Mare, but I would go by each individual horse.

If your looking for a race horse the best bread would be a thoroughbred. They were bred to combine the characteristics of an arabian and quarter horse. Those traits are speed and distance. A quarter horse would be the best breed for barrel racing.

I hope that these tips have helped you out. One last thing I would try is asking horse trainers what they recommend and if they have any you could check out. Make sure that you do a lot of research before spending thousands of dollars on a horse that isn't fit for you.
