If your horse doesn't seem to be enjoying his work, he may need a massage

If your horse doesn't seem to enjoy his work anymore, or perhaps is pinning his ears or swishing his tail, it may be a sign of girth area muscle tightness.

Other signs include reluctance to pick up the correct lead and balking at being asked for a canter. Objection to being girthed up, moving with short stilted steps, difficulty going up or down hills, or being quick to tire are also possible signs of a tight muscle.
