Are you looking to purchase a new horse, but now sure what one would be the best decision? I might have a few tips to help you out. Did you know there are more than 100 breeds of horses that exist today? That doesn't narrow your options very much. If you are a beginner, it's not about the type of breed the horse is it is more about the training the horse has. Try to stay away from Arabians and thoroughbreds. Older horses between the ages of 10-17 are much better for someone who is just starting out. I have heard a Gelding is better than a Mare, but I would go by each individual horse. If your horse doesn't seem to enjoy his work anymore, or perhaps is pinning his ears or swishing his tail, it may be a sign of girth area muscle tightness.Other signs include reluctance to pick up the correct lead and balking at being asked for a canter. Objection to being girthed up, moving with short stilted steps, difficulty going up or down hills, or being quick to tire are also possible signs of a tight muscle.
