Aflatoxin Poisoning - Symptoms to watch for

By Horse Lover at 07/25/08 13:03

With the hot and humid weather we are having in Pennsylvania right now, everyone should be on the lookout for strange behavior in your horses that may indicate health issues. The best thing to do no matter whether your horse is currently healthy, is to KNOW your horse. Know how he eats, know how much he drinks. It is more important than you know.

Feeds containing corn, which almost every sweet feed does, can become potentially deadly in hot and humid weather. The corn can become moldy in the individual bags or even in the field before it comes to the mill.

GUAM HORSES of SLEEPY MEADOWS RANCH

By Lina at 07/06/08 09:29
Guam, horses of Guam: Island ponies grazing
Lack of certified farrier on the Pacific island of Guam creates the need for all horse owners to learn the basics of trimming of hooves, prevention of and treatment of injuries for the care and maintenance of horses on Guam.

The next hurdle is maintaining a steady feed supply of fresh alfalfa cubes or bales, grains, and feed. Wormers, Medicines need to be kept in good supply as well. There are so many challenges as horse owners but as you all know you do it for the love of the animal and the lifestyle.

By Horse Lover at 07/03/08 14:52
Barrel racing is ever increasing in popularity among girls and even us old women! I will tell you it is not for the faint of heart at times.

Staph Infection in Horses - Does your horse have cellulitis?

By Horse Lover at 07/03/08 14:28
Staph infection or MRSA in horses is usually prevented by hand washing. This infection can be transferred to horses from humans and vice versa, and the most common method is hand transfer.

When you are handling your horses, or anyone else's, remember the same hygiene applies when you are coming in contact. Germs can be spread that you pick up from other humans to your horses.

Pennsylvania, Quarter horse: Tuffy gets to stretch his legs on a hot day
Well, here it is July 3 and we are really excited for the weekend. We bought Count On Tough Guy two years ago and have been training him in barrel racing. This weekend we are journeying away from home base at Running Horse Ranch in Franklin, PA where we currently board our two quarter horses.

Tough Guy, aka "Tuffy" is five years old now and his rider, Alex is a fairly new rider as she only started when we bought the two horses.
