When his neighbor in Courtney Avenue died and the house of that neighbor were sold, Gordon Burnette had noticed old paintings that he thought not valuable together with the other junk.
A special painting caught his eye, a painting of a mare and a foal. In the back of the painting was the name of the painter and mare' name dated June 1882.
Wen he research on the name of the painter at the back of the painting he learned that the painting he had was a masterpiece of Thomas J. Scott, a prolific equine portrait artist of the late 19th century.
