Q&A: Part on the bit

By Blog Answers at 01/15/09 16:53

On 07/09/08 18:15, Brittany asked the following question:

Why is the part on a bit called the egg butt? Where does the name come from? Thanks.

Answer #1 On 01/15/09 13:25, Alex from Clarion, PA answered:

An egg butt snaffle bit is called such because of the egg shaped ends which connect the mouthpiece and the bit rings.  This bit is the most commonly used snaffle bit and is perfect for young horses or those with sensitive mouths.  It tends to pinch less than other bits.  It is often used as a training bit as well.
