Here are some fun and interesting facts about horses. Horses produce a whopping ten gallons of saliva a day. Horses also cannot breath through their mouths.
Horses have monocular vision which means that they see two different pictures from each eye. Humans have binocular vision meaning we see the same picture with both eyes. Horses only have binocular vision when they are looking at their noses.
We all know that horseshoes are symbols of luck. The luckiest horseshoe of all is from the right hind shoe of a gray mare.
Most horse breeds have 18 ribs. The arabian only has 17.
Horses actually have a leg (or side) that is just a hair shorter than the other. You can tell which side this is because the mane will fall to that side.
If you wonder why we always mount our horses from the nearside (left) here is why. Men in the old days wore scabbards with swords on the left hip so they could easily pull the sword with the right hand in battle. If they had mounted from the right, the sword would be in the way.
All racehorses in the U.S. celebrate their birthdays on January 1.
