Your Location (city, etc)
London
Please give us a short summary of your website?
Local Riding is about local riders and what you like to do with your horses. It's about showing off your horse and letting other equestrians know how you're doing and how you do it. It's about horse health, horse riding tips, horse care and finding good quality horse stuff, easily......... and it's about allowing good local equestrian suppliers; like tack shops, riding schools, riding clubs and equestrian centres, speak directly to you ... the local riders and horse owners in their local area.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Unable to find a good source of horse riding events and equestrian suppliers in my local area. They were there but just not visible or easy to find.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
www.antique-marks.com - Antique Marks is a free resource to help ebay and other antiques dealers research manufacturers marks and the history behind them.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I used google overture and other keyword search tools
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
It's about local events, local riders and local suppliers. Not just the bih national and international events and the large equatrian magazine sites.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Hopefully generate some income for myself and enlist other local riders to run their areas on the site.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It doesn't yet.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
More bespoke development to make it easier to submit your local information.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes.. easily.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing so far.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Integrating the equestrian events diaries and producing relevant content in each county or state.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
The Equestrian Blog - visitors definitely like the blog.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It hasn't - I expected a long haul and I've got one.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Six months to date and interest is building, so I'll stick with it indefinitely. I'm passionate and interested in horses, they're my life and the site just lets me expand on it.
What do you like doing best with your site ?
The image gallery and the blog. I love attending equestrian competitions and taking photos that I can upload to the gallery. Some of them are as good as any professional and I've managed to sell a few.
